Indications & formulation #
Major depressive disorder in adults. This reference covers the selected formulation; other indications and products need their own evidence.
Dose reference #
Adult educational reference · Oral tablet · United States. The clinician selects treatment after assessment; this page does not calculate or change a prescription.
Start 15 mg at night; reassess at intervals of at least 1–2 weeks before changing dose. Maximum 45 mg/day.
Contraindications & important cautions #
Avoid MAOIs. Review sedation, weight gain, serious skin reactions and symptoms suggesting neutropenia.
Selected important cautions; consult the full product information for all contraindications and warnings.
Adverse effects #
Sedation, appetite and weight changes can be clinically important.
Interactions #
Review additive sedation, alcohol and other relevant centrally acting or serotonergic medicines.
Monitoring #
Track weight/appetite, daytime function, mood and tolerability; assess organ function and symptoms suggesting rare serious adverse effects.
Special populations #
Reduced clearance in moderate/severe renal or hepatic impairment may require lower doses. Older adults have greater sedation/falls vulnerability.
Adult scope. Pregnancy, breastfeeding and pediatric use require the exact product’s population-specific guidance and individual assessment.
