Administration
A knowledgeable informant completes the original NPI-Q; enter the separately scored severity and caregiver-distress totals.
Scoring method
Symptom severity ranges 0–36 and caregiver distress 0–60. Do not multiply these totals or add them together.
Interpretation & limitations
- The two results concern the patient’s neuropsychiatric symptoms and the informant’s associated distress. They answer different questions.
- This is not the longer NPI frequency-times-severity method. Interpret with the informant’s opportunity to observe and the patient’s clinical state.
